Finding cooking channels: categories, favourites and search

Published

Reaching a cooking channel from scratch takes under a minute once you understand the three navigation tools your player gives you: categories, favourites and search. Each one suits a slightly different situation, and combining them is what makes a large channel library feel manageable rather than overwhelming.

Before starting, have your login credentials to hand — these are sent to the email address used at sign-up, typically within minutes of payment. You will also need a compatible player installed and a steady internet connection. With those in place, the steps below take only a few minutes to work through.

What each tool is actually for

Categories let you filter the full channel list down to a single genre, so instead of scrolling through everything on a service with 50,000+ channels, you see only those relevant to food or lifestyle content. Search is the right choice when you have a specific channel in mind and want to jump straight to it. Favourites come last in the workflow: they are for pinning channels you have already found, so you do not have to repeat the discovery process every time you sit down.

Thinking about which tool to reach for first is half the work. A first-time viewer who opens the full channel list and starts scrolling from the beginning will spend far longer than necessary. Starting with a category, or going straight to the search field, cuts that time down significantly.

Filtering by category or group

In IPTV Smarters Pro, tap Live TV on the main screen, then look for a tab or side panel labelled Groups or Categories. Selecting one restricts the channel panel to that group alone. In TiviMate, the group rail runs down the left side of the screen; work through it until you reach a food, lifestyle or factual group and select it.

Not every provider labels categories identically. If there is no standalone food or cooking group, check inside broader headings such as Lifestyle, Factual or Entertainment — cooking channels are frequently filed under one of those rather than given a dedicated section. On a MAG box the portal presents groups as a horizontal menu near the top of the channel browser; the logic is the same.

Once a group is selected, the visible list shrinks considerably. That shorter view is what you want to browse.

Using search to reach a named channel directly

Search is the fastest route when you have a channel name in mind. In IPTV Smarters Pro, a search field or icon appears within the channel list view — tap it, begin entering the channel name and results filter as you type. TiviMate places a similar field within the channel browser. On a MAG box, the remote has a dedicated keyboard shortcut, or you can use the on-screen keyboard to reach the same search function.

If a full name returns nothing, try a shorter version — the opening syllable or two is often enough. Channel names sometimes contain slight variations in spacing or punctuation that prevent an exact match. Searching within a filtered group rather than across the whole library also helps: results stay focused on the genre and do not surface unrelated channels that happen to share part of a name.

Building a small, useful favourites list

Adding a channel to favourites means you never need to filter or search for it again. In most players, a long-press on a channel row opens a context menu where you can mark it as a favourite; in TiviMate a dedicated star button on the remote does the same thing. Once marked, the channel appears in a Favourites group that your player places near the beginning of the group list — making it the first section you encounter when you open Live TV.

A favourites panel works best when it is selective. A handful of channels, chosen because you genuinely return to them, is far more practical than a long list that takes as much time to scroll as the original category view. Aim for channels you would open on most viewing sessions.

The Premium IPTV UK home page gives an overview of the full range of content categories available, which is useful when deciding whether to add channels from other genres alongside your cooking choices.

If someone else in the household watches a different kind of content, the same approach applies. The piece on finding anime quickly shows how the category-and-favourites workflow transfers to a completely different genre.

Confirming the setup is working

Once you have a category filtered, a search completed and a few channels in your favourites, open the Favourites group and tap the first channel. The stream should begin within a few seconds. If it stalls or fails to load, check the connection first: move closer to the router or, where the device allows it, run an ethernet cable rather than relying on Wi-Fi. A room far from the router is the most common reason for buffering, not the channel itself.

A search that returns no results usually points to a name mismatch. Try entering fewer characters and see whether a close match appears. If a category appears empty after selection, signing out and back in refreshes the playlist and typically resolves it.

Quick answers

What if there is no food or cooking category in my player?

Check broader groups such as Lifestyle, Factual or Entertainment first — cooking channels are often placed inside one of those rather than in a separate food section. If nothing suitable appears, search by channel name directly, which works independently of how the groups are structured.

Can different people in the household keep separate favourites?

TiviMate supports multiple profiles, each with its own favourites list. IPTV Smarters Pro handles this through its multi-account feature, where each set of login credentials carries its own saved channels.

Will my favourites survive if I reinstall the player app?

TiviMate stores favourites on the device, so a reinstall clears them unless you export a backup via the settings menu beforehand. IPTV Smarters Pro links favourites to the account, so signing back in after a reinstall typically restores them without any extra steps.

My channel list takes a long time to load — what should I check?

Slow list loading is almost always a connection issue rather than a problem with the player or the service. A wired ethernet connection is more reliable than Wi-Fi, and switching the router to its 5 GHz band while moving the device closer to it tends to improve load times noticeably.
